hello, folks.
i'm a student in california, and i'll be at auc for the 05-06 school year. i've been devouring all sorts of information on egypt and cairo in general, and whatever i can find on auc. i'm still left with a big gap when it comes to actual basic information on life as an auc student, and i was hoping that you would be interested in helping me fill in that gap.
if you'd care to share any information, anecdotes, or anything of the sort, i'd be grateful. it can be about anything, really; the dormitories (or flats, depending), how classes there compare to others you've taken, what you're enjoying most about life there, any advice, or whatever else fits.
honestly, i'd love to hear anything.
shukran.

Dear Study Abroad Students,

We are enjoying your emails to the ISSO. They are full of excitement and
enthusiasm for your life time experience at AUC. Let me tell you that we
are looking forward to meeting each one of you sooooooooon :-)

Now, let me address some of your questions:

Apartments: If you will not be staying at the dorm and need a list for
your apartment search, pass by the ISSO as soon as you arrive and you
will find a list of apartments where previous study abroad students
stayed.

Hotels: If you need a place to stay in before the dorm opens or until
you find an apartment, the ISSO recommends "Tulip Hotel" which is less
than ten minutes walk from campus and moderately priced. You can contact
Dr. Hisham Issa, hotel owner at tuliphotel@yahoo.com

Advising and Course Registration: all advising and course registration
will take place between August 28th and September 1st. Online
registration of courses is not possible for non degree students since
there are special slots reserved for you in the courses which cannot be
accessed outside the ISSO. Also you need to meet your academic advisor
before course registration for waiving certain prerequisites that you
cannot do on your own. As soon as you arrive to Cairo, please pass by
the ISSO to sign up for an advising appointment. The sign up sheets will
be posted at the ISSO starting August 22nd. The ISSO is located in the
Main Campus, Hill House Building, second floor. The campus gate facing
McDonald's is the closest to our office.

Lots of your questions will be answered during the on and off campus
orientations so be patient guys :-)

If you have any inquiries please feel free to contact Ms. May Kamel,
International Student Coordinator < maykamel@aucegypt.edu>

MESSAGE FROM THE LAND OF THE PHARAOHS
Message I

Dear Study Abroad Students,

The final count down has come and you are getting ready for your life time
experience in Egypt. We, at the ISSO, are looking forward to seeing you in
August inshaa'allaah. You will be getting messages from us from now until
you arrive to Egypt to help you get ready and to inform you of all updated
information.

The weekend in Egypt is Friday and Saturday so the ISSO will always be
closed on those two days, except for the 1st day of advising which is
Saturday 28th August. Those of you who will be taking the survival Arabic,
are advised to come and sign up for an appointment to see me concerning your
advising and course registration, ASAP.
The appointment sheets will be posted at the ISSO which is located on the
Main Campus, Hill House building Room 201.

Please note that advising and course registration is done by appointment on
first come first serve basis and although we have reserved lots of spaces
for you in different classes in a wide variety of disciplines, yet, spaces
are limited in some Political Science classes.

You all know that advising and course registration starts on August 28th and
is extended until Monday September 1st. We strongly recommend you attend the
General Advising Session on Thursday, August 26th from 8:00am to 11:00am on
the 6th Floor of the Hill House Building, Main Campus. This will cover
general information related to the course offerings in different departments
at AUC. Another session is scheduled for Saturday, August 28th for the late
arrivals.

Following are the important dates you need to know for the time being:

August 26th Dorm Officially opens
August 26th - 28th Survival Arabic
August 26th General Advising Session I
August 26th & 29th Arabic Placement Test

pleasant.
